A Counterfactual History of Ring of Honor
In the way that I eventually added TNA to the Counterfactual, now that ROH has PPV, and with the GDI angle being my way to incorporate former ROH guys over the past year, it's time to add that contextually.
The thing of it is this.
Counterfactual ROH is identical to real world ROH.
Ring of Honor is my favorite North American promotion ever; I first started getting into puroresu in a big way in the mid 90s; tape trading to watch the AJ heavyweights and the NJ juniors. It never struck me that a US company would ever be able to provide an equivalent to a style of professional wrestling that I preferred exponentially to the companies with which I was raised. I've been devotedly watching wrestling since the very early 1980s, fed on the same diet as most American wrestling fans. Around the turn of the millennium, with WCW and ECW soon to die, I attached myself to east coast indies, watching, in embryonic form, the beginnings of what would become ROH.
To my eyes, Ring of Honor provides a style, a serious quality to wrestling, that I was looking for even before I knew such a thing existed.
So - I'm not changing a thing. Even Xavier.

I won't disagree- ROH has been fantastic. I've been lucky to see three of the shows in person, and really encourage any fans to check out their DVDs (Bryan Danielson's year as champion is one of the best runs I've ever seen by any wrestler).
ReplyDeleteI can't believe ROH was bought by AEW's Tony Khan as it made sense cos All In was produced by ROH (even though it was produced by the Elite) and now it has no TV deal meaning it would be stuck on Honor Club as I just wish it was on syndication like with Sinclair without being pro-Trump in the background instead of being treated harshly like a red-headed step child.
