Women's Title: Shayna Baszler v. Asuka
Asuka's been the focus of the division for a couple years; last year at Mania 35 she beat Rousey in the biggest women's match in the history of the promotion. Following Mania, Baszler assumed control of the Horsewomen, adding Ripley and destroying Rousey to send her from the promotion. They would go on to destroy Asuka, forcing her to abdicate the title that Baszler now holds. At the Rumble - they had the showdown - and in a stunner, Baszler won to keep the strap and end Asuka's undefeated streak.
And so Asuka has to chase here; is she still at the top of the sport? Can she overcome the Big Bad Baszler?
Something that will be evident as we get to the show is there won't be any seconds - no managers, no valets, no stables, this is Quarrantine Content, so Baszler will be going it alone.
Montreal Match: Charlotte Flair v. Becky Lynch v. Sasha Banks v. Bayley
Survivor Series '97 is one of the pivotal moments in promotion history; the first Montrea Match took place. Where feuds between those who have formerly been very, very close threaten to blow up everyones career, there is a 4 Corners submission loser leaves town match. Whomever causes the submission gets something large, either the belt or the title shot.
Owen submitted Bret in the first one; Matt submitted Jeff in the second; Danielson submitted Punk in the third. This is the 4th.
Charlotte/Becky/Sasha/Paige came through developmental together, forming 4-Ground; they'd bust up, all would win the Women's Title, sort of constantly in each other's orbit - when the Horsewomen arrived and took over the division, they very hesitantly reunited with White Meat Babyface Ultimate Underdog Bayley given Paige's spot by Paige "it's not just any spot - it's my spot". But they couldn't maintain peace and after a year of continuing to feud, they have one more TV brawl and then stop - recognizing, look, none of us is in the women's title match; we sit here kicking the hell out of each other, week after week, month after month, year after year and time has moved on.
So - they decide to end it. Winner will become Number One contender; loser leaves town. Montreal IV.
Kairi Sane v. Rhea Ripley
One more women's match; this was going to be Ripley, of the Horsewomen, against Shirai, but they lay Shirai out, she can't go, and Sane gets the spot.
John Cena's Final Match: John Cena v. Randy Orton
And one more Retirement Match. Cena and Orton came up together, were tag champs at the beginning of their WWF careers, would split apart and their careers moved away from each other - would reunite briefly for a final run.
But now - Cena's essentially gone, having whatever Hollywood career he's able to carve out in this universe and Orton, after getting squashed by The Fiend, has appeared a shell of himself.
In quarrantine - Cena begins to send in promos - he sees the end of his career; wants to give his fans one final match, wants it to be against his old partner Orton - but he doesn't want to see the Randy Orton who has been moping around for 9 months, he wants to see the Viper.
And so that's this program - Cena trying to goad Orton, trying to drag the Defiance back out and Orton's resistant until he's not and says Cena and the WWF are going to be sorry they ever asked for the Viper.
Legends Boneyard Brawl: Undertaker v. The Fiend Bray Wyatt
And speaking of guys who don't work here anymore; The Undertaker has long been retired, but once quarrantine starts, he starts sending in mysterious videos; he's at a cemetary, showing gravestones of the men he defeated in the Legends Match in his career.
The last one gravestone belongs to The Fiend. And that allows Wyatt to do what he does.
The match is sold as a special attraction, it's not going to be in a wrestling ring; it's going to have a cinematic quality; it won't be for everyone, but as a one off special Covid Mania attraction, it's the Dead Man coming back one night only to take on The Fiend in the Boneyard.
Bobby Lashley v. Drew Gulak
It's the companion to the IC match; Lashley, from Shoot Nation, taking on Gulak, from Underground
Drew McIntyre v. Jimmy Uso v. Kingston
Hooligans/Usos/New Day are feuding; they mix and match as long as the matches last and then these are the last 3 standing. There's an announcement of a #1 Contenders Battle Royal, which for many years was a tradition. It will return prior to Summer Slam; the winner of this match will be the last entrant. This is a 3 way dance, meaning it's an elimination match.
Claudio Castagnoli v Angel Garza
And finally.
Pre-quarrantine, a couple of matches in this feud happen.
Claudio/Gargano/Hero team up to face Sombra/Garza/Carillo. They enter wearing Kings of Wrestling gear, they go over, completing the face turn and ending Hero's career on a high note, he takes off his KoW shirt and hands it to Gargano, whispering something to him and he then leaves the territory.
That sets up a Dark Ride title match - Garza is the champ (Walter though still has the belt he never relinquished and returns to Europe prior to quarrantine) he defends against Gargano. Gargano has never won a title, his failure being the primary impetus in his joining Trash, becoming completely disillusioned with the sport.
So - now, having shed the Trash moniker - he and Claudio embracing their true babyface ways - is that the key that opens the door Gargano has never been able to walk through?
It does - just before the shutdown - Gargano beats Garza and becomes Dark Ride Champion; there is a full wild babyface celebration, the tears flow - it's the last time fans are at a Dark Ride event in 2020. Ranallo even says something like "if wrestling stopped right now, in some ways, that would be okay".
With Garza in that match and Sombra scheduled for the IC match, Carillo/Claudio is supposed to be this match - but Carillo is pulled, like Sombra is pulled, at the very, very end of the build and this becomes Claudio v. Garza.
And that's the card.
WWF Title Tyler Black v. Brock Lesnar
-The Bullet Club destroyed, can Black "go it alone" as promised and prove he doesnt need the protection of a stable and keep his title against the avenging Lesnar?
AJ Styles/Sami Zayn v. Bryan Danielson/Kevin Steen
-Newly formed heel unit Danielson and Steen take on AJ and, returning to the ring for the first time in two years, the former El Generico.
IC: Ladder Match: Aleister Black v. Nick Nemeth v?
-Once upon a time Nemeth was the leader of Underground; a new Underground generation earned their stripes by killing him a year ago as they feuded with Shoot Nation - fast forward to today; Black has the IC belt and the Triple Crown winner Nemeth is challenging. La Sombra, coming off a win over Claudio at the Rumble, was also going to challenge, but is pulled late for what is presumably Covid related reasons - there will be a third man in this match, who will it be?
Tag Tites: The Clique (Edge/Nitro) v. Street Profits
After years away from the promotion, Triple Crown winner Edge and former IC champ Nitro returned at the Rumble to win the tag titles for HBK and the Clique. They look to keep those belts against upstart babyfaces the Street Profits.
Women's Title: Shayna Baszler v. Asuka
-Baszler ended Asuka's undefeated streak - can Asuka regain her title?
Montreal Match: Charlotte Flair v. Becky Lynch v. Sasha Banks v. Bayley
-The ultimate WWF grudge match - one of these women will submit and leave the promotion. Winner becomes number one contender.
Claudio Castagnoli v Angel Garza
-Claudio returns to his fan favorite roots; he goes up against a rudo, recently dethroned Dark Ride Champ Garza.
Drew McIntyre v. Jimmy Uso v. Kingston
-Factions collide, respresentiatives from Hooligans/Usos/New Day clash - winner to receive the coveted #30 slot at the Number One Contender's Battle Royal.
Legends Boneyard Brawl: Undertaker v. The Fiend Bray Wyatt
-The Dead Man comes out of retirement to take on the mysterious fiend in a "cinematic showdown"
John Cena's Final Match: John Cena v. Randy Orton
-Former tag partners meet in Cena's final match; can he draw the evil out of Orton?
Bobby Lashley v. Drew Gulak
-Like the IC Match - it's Shoot Nation taking on Underground.
Kairi Sane v. Rhea Ripley
-Ripley, of the powerful Horsewomen, takes on Sane.
